Eyelid Surgery in Oceanside, CA
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, rejuvenates upper and lower eyelids to enhance both appearance and vision. An upper blepharoplasty eliminates sagging skin that may impair vision. The placement of the incisions and the amount of skin, muscle, and fat to be removed are meticulously considered. For patients from Asian and Hispanic backgrounds, who often present distinct anatomical features such as a less defined or absent eyelid crease and a fuller upper eyelid, Dr. Nathan customizes the surgery to achieve the desired look while ensuring a natural appearance. This tailored approach is frequently referred to as an Asian blepharoplasty.
A lower blepharoplasty reduces under-eye bags that contribute to a tired look. The approach may involve a reduction or repositioning of fat, often complemented by a skincare regimen to reduce dark circles. This customized approach is designed to honor each patient's distinct facial characteristics, ensuring enhancements that are both aesthetically pleasing and true to their natural beauty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I have noticeable scars after eyelid surgery?
Scarring is exceptionally minimal and discreet. For an upper blepharoplasty, the incision is placed precisely within the natural fold of the eyelid, making it virtually invisible when your eyes are open. For a lower blepharoplasty, the incision is either made just beneath the lower lash line or entirely on the inside of the eyelid (a transconjunctival approach), leaving no external scar at all.
When can I safely resume wearing makeup and contact lenses after eyelid surgery?
You should plan to avoid wearing contact lenses for at least two weeks following surgery. Putting in lenses requires pulling on the eyelids, which can stress and disrupt healing incisions. Similarly, eye makeup should be avoided for 10 to 14 days to prevent bacteria from entering the healing wounds and to avoid the friction required to remove makeup at night.
Can I drive myself home after my eyelid surgery?
No, you will not be allowed to drive yourself home after the procedure. Even if you only receive local anesthesia, your vision may be temporarily blurred from post-operative swelling, tearing, or the thick protective ointment applied to your eyes immediately after surgery. You must arrange for a responsible adult friend or family member to drive you home and assist you for the first few hours.
