Dr. Alexander Foster was born and raised here in San Diego, and after graduating from medical school as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society at the University of Southern California, left for the Pacific Northwest to complete his surgical residency at the University of Washington. He stayed in Seattle an extra year to undertake rigorous subspecialty training in cornea transplant.
He performs a large volume of LASIK and cataract surgery, and takes pride in being on the cutting edge of intraocular lens technology. He was the first surgeon in San Diego to implant the new Eyehance toric lens, the most advanced implant for the correction of astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery. He also has extensive experience with RxSight's light adjustable lens. Dr. Foster believes every patient deserves a tailored approach to cataract surgery and he will be happy to help you design a plan to achieve your optimum results.
As a subspecialist, Dr. Foster also performs all types of keratoplasty (corneal transplant), including traditional penetrating grafts, anterior lamellar grafts, and endothelial grafts. He is the only surgeon in North County performing the most advanced form of transplant, the Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty. He also handles other complex anterior segment techniques including scleral-fixated intraocular lenses, pterygia, iris repair, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and is frequently referred these cases by local colleagues.
In his spare time, Dr. Foster is very much a typical southern Californian – he enjoys surfing, beach volleyball, and spending time with his wife Laura (an emergency physician), their son Reid, and their dog Roy. He looks forward to perfecting your vision at Davies Eye.
