Dr. James A. Davies, M.D. is the Medical Director of Davies Eye Center and The Surgical Eye Care Center. Dr. Davies is the first in the world to implant the FDA approved Crystalens HD500 in 2008. His is recognized as an authority in the field of cataract and refractive surgery with his experienced in a wide range of procedures, such as corneal and anterior segment eye surgery, corneal laser refractive surgery, and cataract surgery.
As a surgical pioneer specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, with special emphasis on the Crystalens accommodating lens implant he was the first in Southern – California to implant the first-generation Crystalens in 2003. He has extensive surgical experience, having performed over 30,000 surgeries, including over 13,000 cataract and lens implant procedures. Of the 13,000+ cataract and lens procedures, over 1,300 and counting have been Crystalens’. He has since been part of numerous studies, becoming Lead Investigator for the Crystalens HD100 and HD500 studies, and is a member of the Eyeonics’ Scientific Advisory Panel.
Dr. Davies is an innovator, often introducing new technologies in the field of ophthalmology. Over the years Dr. Davies has been involved in every aspect of cataract and refractive surgery, traveling the world to learn and teach the latest cataract and refractive surgery techniques.
Dr. Davies has presented at multiple conventions for ophthalmologists, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, New York City, Chicago and even San Diego. Dr. Davies recently spoke at the San Diego American Academy of Ophthalmology convention in March 2011. - Graduated from Brigham Young University with High Honors with Distinction and with the University Scholar designation, and was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society

- First surgeon in San Diego to use the VISX excimer laser to reshape the cornea and remove corneal scars (1995)
- First in San Diego to use endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP), a revolutionary new treatment that uses a small handpiece that has a video camera, light source and laser for treating glaucoma patients (2003)
