A Misunderstood Eye Condition

Hello Readers,
As most of you know, we are participating in a Bausch & Lomb sponsored clinical study of an astigmatism correcting intraocular lens implant, also known as the Crystalens Toric. I have screened more than 100 phone calls asking for details about the study.

After speaking to so many people, I realized that many people do not understand some very basic facts about intraocular lens implants and cataract surgery. So, I would like to share 5 basic facts to clear-up the misunderstandings that I have found:

1. During cataract surgery, the natural lens, which has become cloudy with age, is removed.

2. An artificial lens MUST be implanted once the cataract is removed; otherwise, the patient would see only shapes and colors.

3. The artificial lens is called an intraocular lens implant (IOL).

4. There are 3 different types of lens implants that the doctor might recommend…monofocal, multifocal (ReStor) and accommodating (Crystalens).

5.  Medical insurance will pay for cataract surgery.

I would love to hear from you! Call me today to answer your questions and to schedule an exam.

Sincerely,

Sherry

P.S. Make sure to ask me about how to
qualify for the study I mentioned. :)
